Freelancing

Freelancing online is one way of earning real money online.

Freelancing is yet another way to earn real money online.

What exactly is freelancing and how can you make money doing it?

Freelancing is when you provide a service for someone or for a company, for a fee. You’re not an employee, but you are an independent contractor. Under these terms, there are some important things to consider, but overall freelancing can be one of the quickest ways to earn money online.

So what types of services are we talking about here?

Obviously not everyone can do just anything online or over the internet and get paid for it, right? Of course, that is true. However, look toward your strengths rather than your weaknesses when trying to determine what type of freelancing business you might want to set up for yourself.

For example, I started out doing freelance writing online, back in 2007. At first I was only earning a few pennies per word, but I learned how to crank out 300-500 word articles related to almost any topic, for SEO  purposes, pretty darn quickly. The faster I could turn around a set of articles, the quicker I could get paid via Paypal. Money in my pocket. Those opportunities still exist today.

One step up from the penny pinching grunge of SEO article writing is writing content for what is un-affectionately termed “content mills.” Those are bad words in the ears of most people. However, if you find a legitimate place that is collecting usable information and paying people to write it, it can become quite lucrative. One such endeavor, for me, was the start-up people powered search engine, Mahalo. Another was Demand Media, as well as Creative Content (which was later bought out by Yahoo! and then disbanded). I was one of many, many people who utilized these opportunities to launch a writing career, earn real money online (a full time income!) and make network connections that will hopefully last a lifetime.

Other types of services that you can do as a freelancer could include things like ghost writing social media content for Facebook or Twitter, designing graphics for people, web design, etc.. Just think about what your strengths are and what you can do for others. Resumes? Graphics? Video production? Whatever skills you have, there is a global marketplace for them and people are willing to pay you to help them get things done.

Where can I find these freelancing jobs?

When you’re not looking for them, it seems like they are everywhere. When you start looking for them, all of the sudden it seems like they are nowhere to be found. Sound familiar? Nah, it’s all good. There are plenty of freelancing jobs out there. Here are some of the best resources for finding the jobs you are interested in. Remember to always do your due diligence before contracting with someone for a freelance job online (more on that in another article).

There’s so much information out there. How do I know where to start?

If you’r serious about earning real money online and you’re considering freelancing, then I would recommend staring out by writing, just like I did. The demand for services is high and you can find people who want native English speaking writers and are willing to pay more for our services. Still, it can be intimidating, to say the least. That’s why, at this time, I’m recommending a program that was put together by an online acquaintance of mine, Yuwanda Black, of Inkwell Editorial. She’s been writing online a lot longer than I have, and she’s the real deal. Her program will take you from square one to earning real money online as a freelance writer in no time.If you’re truly determined to become a freelance writer, this is where your journey begins.
